The fun and entertainment that Victoria’s disability sector garners from the TAB Great Chase is on show across Victoria’s 12 racetracks each year, however in many instances the enjoyment extends beyond the groups’ VIP racetrack experience.
One example is Warracknabeal organisation, the EW Tipping Foundation, which has been a regular at Horsham’s TAB Great Chase heats for many years, and was one of more than 30 groups to share in more than $30,000 in prize money from the 2014 series.
Gail Boyd, a Team Leader at EW Tipping Foundation, has detailed how the organisation’s share of the prize money was spent.
“EW Tipping won $500 prize money at the TAB Great Chase last year, which we kept aside to do something special. Six ladies – Melissa, Suzie, Natasha, Jennifer, Donna and Lisa – along with support staff, enjoyed a two day outing in June to see The Lion King. We drove to Ballarat, then took the train to Melbourne (this in itself was a big achievement for Suzie),” Gail said.
“After lunch we went to the Theatre where programs were purchased and we then watched the show, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. On arrival back to Ballarat, we enjoyed dinner at La Porchetta and then settled into our accommodation.”
“The next day the ladies enjoyed a visit to Ballarat’s EW Tipping Foundation office, where they were given a tour and told everyone about their trip. We then had some fun shopping, ate lunch and returned home to Warracknabeal. The ladies are very thankful to the Horsham GRC for the prize money received at last year’s Great Chase which they used to purchase their tickets to the Lion King.”
While the 2015 TAB Great Chase is taking a slightly different shape in 2015, the on course VIP treatment continues across Victoria’s 12 racetracks and a new lottery-style format will virtually guarantee a record crowd at the Grand Final on Wednesday October 28 at The Meadows, with a top prize of $10,000 (up from $5,000) to go to one lucky organisation drawn out on the day.
