Out of the boxes: 410 record to Allen Indy

As predicted, the Horsham training combo of Bill and Helen Hartigan dominated the first race on Saturday night in near perfect conditions with Avatar Flame and Avatar Vixen running the quinella.

Fresh from their success last Tuesday with Al’s Luck the Hartigan trained pair were expected to feature prominently and started as first and second favourites on the TAB and didn’t disappoint, producing agood time for maidens, kicking the night off in grand style.

Ron Rowe (Horsham) and Andrea Gurry (Nhill) where the other two local trainers to feature, with two seconds on the night in Scarlet Blu Boy and Kalani Wilson.

Kokkoda Dreamin’, the track record holder from last Tuesday again saluted in race 11 over 410m for Rod Millington of Red Cliffs but they had to watch on as the run of the night came earlier on the card when the Mark Delbridge trained Allen Indy (pictured with trainer Mark Delbridge) smashed Kokoda Dreamin’s standard running 23.086sec over 410m.

Fresh from a win over the 485m on Tuesday, Allen Indy scorched early and took full advantage of a strong tail wind down the famously long Horsham straight to win by an increasing seven lengths on the line.

A special mention needs to be made of Susan Gray, her husband Max and daughter Tegan won with Iceni Crusader and three others finish second.

With a bit of luck it could have been a clean sweep for the Gray team, made even more remarkable as they are based at Broken Hill and make the weekly 12 hour round trip to Horsham and other Victorian tracks to race.

Although not a win at the Horsham track, mention has to be made of Judy O’Neil who runs the Horsham Boarding Kennels, trains greyhounds and is an employee at Horsham Greyhound Racing Club. Last Thursday she had the thrill of Vectis Secret winning at Sandown, her first city winner as an owner and trainer. Well done!

Tuesday night marks the seventh meeting since reopening, and in testament to the track the Club has again attracted twelve races stacked with quality greyhounds.
