Ranger Heading to the Ol’ West

CLASSY country racing is on show yet again at Horsham this week, with the first contest of the evening kicking off at 3:54pm in the form of a Victorian Bred Debut race.

Punters won’t have to wait long to throw their hat in the ring – with the punting kicking off in race number two of the card.

Boosted by consistent form of late, Bally Mo Town (8) looks to be the pick of the field in race two. He was checked heavily in his last start (a last place at the Meadows) and looks to be in his right element to bounce back with a win. He showed impressive turn of foot in his recent triumph at Shepparton – a solid 25.68sec hitout over the 450 metres in January (Replay). He’ll be challenged by Neville Bale (6) and Fred of Lidsdale (3) but he has enough about him to salute here.

Moving onto the seventh of the night, Scenic Shot (7) demonstrated what he capable of doing from the outside draw here last week – an emphatic victory over the 480 metres (Replay). He is racing as consistently as anything in country Victoria at the moment, and looks hard to beat. Seabrook Sam, who is set to jump from box six, may find some early luck with a vacant box next door. He is more than capable enough, but I think Scenic Shot will be too good. Certainly one for the placings.

Based off blistering sectionals in a second place run to the talented Azza Azza Azza last week at Warrnambool (Replay), I really like the look of Mepunga Ranger from box three in race eight. This greyhound possesses genuine pace, and I think his talent may be too much here. He has been unlucky not to score in his past three results (all second places) but he has proven himself to have real talent – especially from the inside boxes.

Good luck for the night and happy punting!
