Freelance journalist & greyhound racing enthusiast Nick Ansell previews Tuesday night’s racing at Horsham.
VICTORIA’S finest are set to contest the prestigious ‘GRV Vic Bred’ final this Tuesday, a race at the pinnacle of another huge night of greyhound racing at Horsham.
Like many others I picked him last week, and I’m going to pick him again – emphatic chaser Shirdon Connorae blitzed the competition in his heat last week, saluting by five lengths in a best of the night time of 23.10sec. REPLAY His quality is unquestionable and the inside draw will only do him favours.
This race is genuinely packed with quality greyhounds. Other than Shirdon Connorae, I really like the look of Buckle In (2). I think the majority of the pool will be drawn towards Shirdon Connorae, and Buckle In offers fantastic value at $6.00 after his commanding 23.13 triumph here last week. REPLAY At the very least, an each way bet.
Just one race before, I’m really excited about Brazen Bull (5), pictured above. He’s drawn uncomfortably, but he has two on the trot in blistering times. His 29.66 triumph over the 515 metres at Sandown Park is of group racing quality (REPLAY)– and he backed it up on Thursday with a huge win at Angle Park in Adelaide. If he jumps well, I think he has the class to get over the line. His odds are even better – at $8.50 he’s one of the bets of the night.
Later in the evening, I can’t look past the classy Bills Back (race nine, box two) to set the track alight. In my opinion, he’s the most talented chaser in country Victoria – and I expect him to record his fifth straight victory on Tuesday.
He recorded a best of the night victory at Horsham late last month. REPLAY
